Incredible impact supporting young adults with SEND

I had the privilege recently to work alongside our Course Deliverer – AJ, to deliver one of our Building self-belief programmes to a local group of young adults supported by SWRAC (South West Regional Assessment Centre).  These young people engaged in the progamme with a huge amount of enthusiasm and made us feel welcome each time we turned up. We used the analogy of different fruits to represent each of our ‘colours’ and they loved working out which ‘fruit’ was most like them. The culmination of the programme resulted in us making smoothies to with different fruits to represent each young person’s colour. This was a really fun activity and the young people loved choosing their fruits and getting fully involved.

The sessions had a very positive impact, helping students to better understand both their own personalities and those of others. They were reassured that there are no “good” or “bad” personality types, and that there is no expectation for anyone to change who they are. Instead, the focus was on recognising and appreciating differences, and how this understanding can strengthen relationships and friendships. Overall, this awareness will support them in building more positive and respectful connections with others.
